Free Topic

This week has been a really relaxing week for me. I really enjoyed some of the time off. I also had a great weekend.

Saturday, I took the practice exam for Dental School. I thought that it was going to be hard, but I did not expect it to be impossible. It defiantly was very close to impossible. I am very glad that I took it because it gave me an idea of what to expect when I take it for real, it was just a little discouraging knowing that it is going to be that hard. One thing that I think will help is taking organic chemistry. I have not taken that class yet, so once I take it, my grade will improve. Also, I know now that I have to study and work very hard for my goal. I have never wanted anything more my whole life and I am going to work as hard as I can to achieve my goal.

I hope you are having a great week! See you tomorrow

Interview

Going into the interview, I had the normal nervousness running throughout my body. I was very eager to get my interview over with because I was insecure about what you were going to ask and how I would respond. As I sat there for a few minutes, I noticed that I was getting much more calm and confortable about speaking. I am not sure if this was because you were very warm and welcoming to my answers of if it was because I am getting used to doing interviews and became more confident.

After doing a lot of research about Dental School I knew that I would encounter an interview at some point. Previously I had thought about the things that I woud say, but it is a totally different sensation actually saying it to someone else. It really gave me a lot of encouragement knowing that I was able to answer the questions and not stumble over my words. Also it confirmed the fact in my head about why I want to help people and go to Dental School. I really enjoyed this assignment and feel that it helped me out a ton when it comes to preparing for interviews. I was so excited when I left and felt that I would be able to walk into Dental School right then and there and do my interview with great pride!

Presentations

One of the presentations that I enjoyed the most was Colin's on Hybrid Cars. I had heard a lot of things about Hybrid Cars, but a lot of them were rumors as to why they were good or bad. For me, Colin's presentation cleared up a lot of the confusion as to why Hybrid cars are good for the environment. Also, he addressed many of the facts and therefore gave me a clear understanding of Hybrid vechicles. I really enjoyed his presentation and now I am eager to do more research on this type of fuel.

Free Write

This week has been a really tough week for me, starting with the weekend. Overall, the weekend has not been very good and now I am going into a week with so much work to do. I have a project due Wednesday and two tests Thursday. I am feeling more pressure than ever because I am determined to get into Dental School, meaning that I have to maintain my grades. I am just really ready for this week to be over with and be able to relax over fall break. I am also really glad I do not have any classes Friday so that I can go home a day early and catch up on sleep. Thanks!

Resume Writing

If there is anything that I have learned from this class, it is how to write a good resume and most importantly, make it look creative. It has been stressed over and over to make your resume stand out. At first I was not really sure what people meant by this, but now I am starting to get an understanding of what to do. It is very important for my resume to stand out from the crowd if I want to get noticed. Future employers will not know me from anyone else and therefore I have to market myself in a way that will put me ahead of the pack.

Another point that I have learned while going through the resume process is to search the company's website before applying so you get an understanding of what their company is all about and what type of people they are looking for. This way, when you start your resume and potentially go in for an interview, you will be able to market in a way that is directed towards their company.

September 16th

I found a lot of these articles really interesting. The first one I came upon was about students learning how to pull all nighters and still function the next day. I do not really agree with what this article is saying because it is almost saying that it is okay to pull all nighters and still work in the morning. It also says that if you are able to do all of these things at once, then you can handle a lot on your plate. I do not think that this is necessarily true. If you are good at handling a lot of things on your plate, then you should not have to be staying up all night to get things done. If you are good time manager, then you will start doing things ahead of time and not cram at the end. Also if you stay up really late, the next day, you are not going to be at your optimum work level and therefore will not put as much effort into the next project.

The second article about people taking off their wedding bands to go into to an interview really surprised me. I never considered this before reading this article. I do not think that you should ever take of your wedding band to get a job because you want the employer to know about your life style in order to see if you fit for the job. If you are married and do not get a job because of it, then you probably should not be doing it in the first place.

I really agree with the article about the pre-test for a job. It says that if you lie on the pre-test and get the job, you may have to live up to standards that are not like you. If you can not be yourself at work, then you are never going to be happy. If you are honest and don't get the job, then you are better off because you will know the job wasn't meant for you.

September 10th

I have no idea what my life is going to be like in ten years. I am the type of person that likes to go with the flow of things, instead of making things happen. When I graduate from Clemson, I want to go to dental school. I don't really care where, but would prefer MUSC. So in ten years I will be a successful dentist with LOTS of money. :) Hopefully by that time I will have a little dog and no children. Ten years would be about the perfect time to meet a potential husband and possibly get married. I would like to live in Colorado with the rest of my family and go skiing everyday. I can not wait to experience the next ten years!
